BPS Scottish Undergraduate Conference

Yesterday, Glasgow Caledonian University held the 2022 BPS Scottish Undergraduate Conference. I was lucky enough to have been selected from the pool of applicants to present my dissertation research alongside other final year psychology students from across Scotland. It was amazing being at my first ever in-person psychology conference, and the buzz and atmosphere in the building really was exciting.

I presented my work in the afternoon session, which gave me plenty of time to prepare, and probably overthink, my presentation and the possible questions I may be asked. I was pretty nervous beginning the presentation, even though it was only in front of about 30 people in a breakout space, but once I got into it I was far more comfortable. My strong point has never been presenting, so I was pretty proud of myself to have got through it with barely any hesitation! I was so grateful to have the support of fellow Abertay students as well as two lecturers who had come all the way from Dundee, on a Saturday, to listen to us speak. I didn’t see many university staff aside from those from the host institution, so it was great that our staff showed interest and supported us.

The day was rounded off with a dinner with my mum, and I was so happy and proud to have presented at my first ever conference. This feels like another step on the rung of the ladder towards a career in psychology!
